Last Saturday we had Node’s second year anniversary with 12 hours of events and a party to close the day!
During the whole day, alongside with welcoming tea and coffee, we had different stations and activities. We created an Exhibition Title Generator device in which visitors could create their own imaginary exhibition titles.
At midday we started with the Know-how-why-what Ping Pong, a one-on-one exchange between present Node residents and visitors. Each member of the ping pong duo taught the other their topic for 15 minutes. We had lessons in different fields, from Nose Morse Code, Chinese language, Indesign, Chakra Alignment to How to enter to the Venice Biennale for free.
At 14:00 we had the yummy Lunch Remix, in which people were asked to find a partner, fill a form and make a sandwich for their partner. It was great catalyst for interaction between people!
At the same time Perla Montelongo and Lauren Reid performed the Untitled Prophecies. They conduct a one-on-one analysis of the past, present and future of artworks via precise esoteric measurements, predicting the potential ‘success’ or ‘failure’ of artworks. Artists got a full printed dossier of their prophecies and found interesting to look at their artworks from that perspective
Later we hosted tree sessions of Live Confessions, a conversational game from the late 19th century played by Marcel Proust and the Surrealists, that laterally explores the aspirations and personalities of the interviewed people. In this format, Leen Horsford and a guest who is not familiar with the art field, interviewed Node director Perla Montelongo and past residents, Paz Perez-Bustamante and Rachel Fox. Following Leens rules, there was no documentation, so the secrets stay with us!
Finally, alongside with Chun Ya Yang VJ performance, we had an amazing Freestyle Cocktails where the residents designed experimental cocktails for all the visitors!
Thank you to the ones that joined us in the celebration!
In which Lauren introduces Perla and Galen to the Australian delicacy, Tim Tams and teaches them the fine art of the Tim Tam Slam.
1. First prepare a warm coffee, or tea then bite the diagonally opposite corners off the Tim Tam. Contemplate its beauty.
2. Suck the warm drink up through the Tim Tam like a straw until you feel it start to melt and crumble.
3. Quickly shove the whole thing into your mouth all at once. It looks like pain but that is the face of intense and transcendent joy.
Finally the sad day came: Last day for enjoying the company of our lovely summer residents. We started the day with a toast with Berocca (a tradition imported from Ireland), then we got ready for the final review of mistakes and improvements for the program. Lunch time: we went to have some nice japanese food in Berlin Mitte, followed by wonder waffles, collective hugs and closing the night with Karaoke session, highlighted by “Under pressure” energetic performace. We’ll miss you all dear summer Nodies!
Before the opening of our Summer final show, Node team needed to get new haircuts for the occasion. With so little time to make hairdresser appointments, we trusted blindly in our residents Dunja Rmandic and Maeve Mulrennan to design and execute our new haircuts. Now they are the official Node friseurs!
Unfortunately we need to travel to Australia or Ireland if we want to get a haircut again…

From Sunday July 8 till Tuesday July 10 Node residents and team visited Documenta (13), the thirteenth edition of Documenta invloving more than 300 participants. The exhibition in Kassel is presented at eight main venues, with many other projects located at sites throughout the center of the city.
Documenta (13) is dedicated to artistic research and forms of imagination that explore commitment, matter, things, embodiment, and active living in connection with, yet not subordinated to, theory (Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Artistic Director of Documenta 13)

Culturia, an art space dedicated to researching artistic processes and artist-in-residence program, invited Node for a visit. Culturia current residents Laurianne Bixhain, Jake Brooks, Ruth Le Gear and Hannah Goldstein held presentations about their work. The presentations were followed by a tasty dinner with dishes made by all participants, with a honourable mention to the gnocchi with red beet and almond pesto.
